NICE COLOR MAPS!Here is a really nice report on a geologically diverse area of Wyoming. This is USGS Professional Paper 294-E,
Geology of the Du Noir Area, Fremont County, Wyoming
. This 65-page report, published in 1956, covers the geology of this large area in great detail. It includes a large full color map covering about 250 square miles as well as a smaller color map of a local area. The town of Dubois is in the souther part of the map area, which is covers the headwaters of the Wind River.
All the formations are completely described, and numerous photographs help make the geology clear. Rocks in the study area range in age from Precambrian to Cenozoic, and include igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks of may types. There is extensive discussion, along with some really great photos. Some
gold
is known in placers in the area and the location is given. There is also mention of a
uranium
occurrence in an adjacent area that has
carnotite
,
barite
, and
fluorite and its location is given also!
In addition there area some
significant
coal deposits in the area.
This is a great report, and the colorful maps really help make the geology understandable. It's a good reference and guide for any mineral collector or explorer that wants some variety in a different area.
