    Description

    SCARCE HISTORIC ITEM!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 1001,
Geology and Engineering Geology of the Wray Area, Colorado and Nebraska
. Published in 1953, this is a scarce report that details the geology of this area of the plains in northeast Colorado and southern Nebraska. This 64-page book comes complete with the large color geologic map and a large fold out table of construction material locations
. There are also numerous photos of interesting features and locations.
This study was done to support plans for a giant dam on the Republican river, which
    apparently
was never built. As part of the study they looked at engineering properties of the formations in the area, to see what they could put to use in the dam, but also to make known what kind of resources were available for general use or industrial development.
The map show the Republican river drainage both above and below the proposed dam site. It is a pretty cool map that should be of interest to local residents or historians, and anyone else that likes this area.
