    Description

    FEW LEFT!!
This is a scarce geology publication,
Geology of the Montfort and Linden Quadrangles, Wisconsin
. This is USGS Bulletin 1123-B.
Published in 1963, this publication documents the geology of this interesting area, which is part of the Upper Mississippi Zinc-Lead district. This publication consists of the 44-page book and the original geologic map, all in great condition! The maps is a huge beautiful large color geologic map of the area that shows the locations of dozens of mines! This is an extra large map measuring 25.5 x 39.8 inches, because it shows two adjacent quadrangles on the same sheet.
This area produced galena crystals up to eight inches on a side, and masses of galena crystals weighing in excess of a ton! Galena crystals came in both cubic and octahedral forms! Smithsonite is also found in the area, sometimes as pseudomorphs of calcite. Sphalerite is also found in the area, but this area was known more for lead production than zinc. The last lead-zinc mine in Linden closed in 1975 due to low zinc prices and state of Wisconsin regulations that made it very difficult for smaller mines to operate.
This is a good opportunity to own a scarce geologic publication on an interesting area. The large color geologic map alone is worth it! You’ll wait a long time before you see someone else with one of these on eBay!
