    Description

    SCARCE ITEM!!  COOL LOCATIONS!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 932-A,
Eocene, Oligocene, and Miocene Rocks and Vertebrate Fossils at the Emerald Lake Locality, 3 Miles South of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
. Published in 1976, this uncommon item describes the geologic setting, fossils, and significance of this unusual site in the mountainous west. Evidently rocks of these ages are not preserved many places in the intermountain west, and are more prevalent in the western plains states like Nebraska.
This 28-page publication discusses the importance of the rocks and the fossils they contain, and furthermore provides fairly precise locations where the fossils were collected. As such it would make a great field guide for anyone wanting to examine this area or perhaps collect fossils. There are several photos in the book that make the locations of fossil-bearing outcrops quite plain, such that there would not be any question about where to look for specimens. Most of the species present are various rodents that were well known from locations in Nebraska, and their occurrence in these rocks indicates the similarity of the climates between the two regions, which is interesting not only because of their distance from each other but also because of the difference in elevation between them. All in all, this would make a great reference or field guide for the paleontologist, fossil collector or enthusiast.
