    Description

SCARCE!!  ONLY ONE I HAVE!!  GREAT HISTORY!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 940-G,
Manganese Deposits of the Sweet Springs District, West Virginia and Virginia.
Published in 1944, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of a 19-page book and both of the original geologic maps. One of the maps is a fairly large two-color map and the other is black and white. This is a historic mining district that offers such minerals as
    psilomelane
    and
    pyrolusite
. One of the deposits is said to have cherty material where there "are numerous small cavities lined with
    crystals of manganese oxides
.” Mines and prospects described in this publication include:
    Appalachian Ores Company mine
    Baker Prospect
    Faudree Prospect
    Traynham mine
    Paint Bank mine
    Arms prospect
    Bell prospect
Thayer prospects, including the Upper Linton, Perdue, Lower Linton, and Little Mountain prospects.
This would make a great guide for a mineral collector looking to investigate these old mines for crystals. It's a scarce item that could really help plan a good trip.
