Published in 1954, this is a pretty scarce item. This 30-page book details the Triassic geology of this complex area and comes complete with all seven of the original plates. One of the plates is a cool map diagram covering parts of Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. It shows how the Triassic formations vary across the region.
The triassic was an interesting time in the west, with marine strata being deposited in thick sections. Faulting has spread the rocks across several ranges, so it took a bit of detective work to put together the picture, which is what this book describes. These studies of specific periods in geologic history are fascinating because they tell the story of a bygone time when the world looked quite different. What was once ocean scenery is now arid to semi-arid landscapes thousands of feet higher in elevation than in the Triassic.
This would be a great book for any geologist, science buff, or resident of the region who wants to know more about the area. Great to find it complete with all the plates. Nice gift idea also!
