Originally issued in soft covers that wore out, this one was saved by being rebound to nice hardcovers before incurring any damage. It is in e
xcellent condition - as good as you could expect to find in any book a hundred years old.
This is an interesting book that looks at the oil-bearing Mississippian rocks in this part of Texas.  The introduction notes that with the cost of drilling deeper and deeper holes for oil, the time was past when the geology could be ignored! So this study was done to provide details that would allow geologists to keep track of the formations they were encountering as they drilled. It details the general aspects of the
Mississippian formations with especial focus on microfossils likely to be identifiable in drill cuttings. There are plates of the fossils which include fascinating conodonts and other critters, plus many pictures of rock sample with their characteristic features. The rocks are a good deal more varied than I would have expected, so there is a lot to gain from this cool book.
I would guess this is one of the earliest studies of its kind, that delves into all aspects of the rocks for an economic purpose. Nice to find in hard covers. Soft covers I have seen have suffered significant wear over the years. For nearly a century old, this one is excellent.
