    Description

AMAZING LITTLE FOSSILS!! ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 189-C,
Pliocene Diatoms from the Kettleman Hills, California
    .
Published in 1938, this is a scarce ite
    m. This 22-page book comes with four plates of photos of the fossils. The text details the amazing fossils that have come from the western side of the San Joaquin valley about 75 miles north of Bakersfield. A total of 232 species and varieties of diatom fossils have been found in this area where marine and fresh-to-brackish water
    sediments
    occur along the hills.
Just to be clear, diatoms are microfossils. The largest ones here measure about a quarter millimeter. So these are obviously photos taken through a microscope. But they're still super cool looking, and frankly for the price you could take the plates and frame them for an interesting decor item. I usually don't like to suggest that, but this is a somewhat low-demand item otherwise and the information is readily
    available
elsewhere these days. Photos are on the fronts and backs of the plate pages.
Whatever you decide to do with it, it is pretty interesting stuff, and the fossils are really wild looking.
As always, please read the condition notes.
