Description
VINTAGE IDAHO GEOLOGY!! LOTS OF MAPS, PHOTOS AND GRAPHICS!!This is US Geologic Survey Bulletin 577,
Geology of the Phosphate Deposits Northeast of Georgetown, Idaho
. This 76-page book published in 1914 comes complete with two large fold out photos plates with two photos each, additional photo plates in the text, a fold out diagram, maps in the text, and eight fold out maps. There is something interesting every few pages!
This report details all the formations in the area, and describes the structure as well. The Bannock Thrust is a prominent feature in the geology. The phosphate deposits are associated with the Permian Phosphoria formation. It is a widespread formation in the intermountain west, but only locally does it contain significant phosphate deposits.
There are numerous
significant
areas that were given additional attention and most have fold out maps with them. Most of the maps have cross sections that help show the
structure more clearly. Some of them got developed into large mines. The panoramic photos are very cool too. This book is just full of great information and graphics that puts it a cut above many similar USGS reports. Should be of interest to local residents, historians, geologists, mining companies, mineral collectors, hikers and the like.
