Description
UNCOMMON REPORT!! ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!This is USGS Bulletin 1181-MN. It is a two part report consisting of two articles: "
Geologic Sketch of Northwestern Oregon
" and "
Geologic Interpretation of Reconnaissance Gravity and Aeromagnetic Surveys in Northwestern Oregon
." Published in 1964, this is one I have never offered before. The publication consists of a 30-page book, the original geologic and gravity map, and two aeromagnetic profiles, which all come in a pocket in the back of the book.
The first article details the different volcanic and sedimentary rocks in an area from Eugene to the Columbia river, and west to the coast. Salem is along the east edge of the map. The map combines geology with gravity contours and the text explains the rock units and history of the area. The second article describes the aeromagnetic and magnetic surveys, their results, and interpretation. Together these are pretty interesting and provide a lot of perspective on this complex group of young rocks, including Columbia river basalts, marine sediments, lake sediments, older volcanic rocks, and others. A cool report, sure to be of interest to anyone in the northwestern cities of Oregon. For some reason I seldom come across these.
