    This is USGS Bulletin 1046-B,
Rare-Earth-Bearing Apatite at Mineville, Essex County, New York
. Published in 1956, there can’t be many of these around.
This 16-page report documents this unusual occurrence of rare earth metals in apatite at some of the iron ore deposits in the Adirondack mountains of New York. Metals such as yttrium, rare earths, thorium, and uranium are present in ores from the
    Old Bed
    and
    Smith
mines. In addition, the uncommon minerals
    bastnaesite
    and
    monazite
are present in these rocks. The
    Cheever
    ,
    Sherman
    ,
    Pilfershire
    and
    Old Joker
mines are also discussed in the text, as well as the
    Fisher Hill deposit
. All in all this is a very interesting and rare publication on a historic mining area.
