    Geology of Western Mineral County, Montana
    . Published in 1956, this is a pretty scarce item. This publication documents the geology of this interesting area. It consists of the 39-page book and a huge full color geologic map covering approximately 300 square miles of mountainous country along the state line with Idaho, plus three additional maps of individual mines in the area. It is a really beautiful color map.
    This area has quite complex geology of faulted and folded sedimentary rocks of the
    Precambrian
    Belt group. There are other rocks as well, including a group of diorite sills and dikes.
    This area contains numerous mines and prospects, mainly for silver, lead, zinc, and copper, and is similar to the prolific silver mines of adjacent Idaho. A number of these mines and prospects are mentioned in the text, including:

    The report covers the geology in great depth. Every formation is described completely, and the map has a nice cross section on it that makes the geology really come alive. All the information on mining is great and would make a great resource for mineral collectors, historians, armchair geologists, or anyone else that loves this area and wants to explore it. A really great report, and a bit hard to find these days, as the good ones always are.
