Overall very good.

    Here are
    two
    nice hard cover books on coal mining areas in Montana from the early twentieth century.
    The first is USGS Bulletin 390,
    Geology of the Lewistown Coal Field, Montana
    . Published in 1909 this 83-page book comes with the original full color map of the region. It is nice looking vintage map in good condition. There is also a B&W fold out map within the text, plus plates of photos of interesting features around the region. The text contains descriptions of the geology of the the formations, which range in age from Mississippian to Cretaceous, but it goes on to describe much more recent features like hot springs deposits and young gravels. Many coal mines are mentioned by name. See the first seven photos.
    The second is USGS Bulletin 749,
    Geology of the Tullock Creek Coal Field, Rosebud and Big Horn Counties, Montana
    . Published in 1923 this 181-page book comes with several fold out correlation diagrams within the text, plus plates of photos of interesting features around the region. The text contains descriptions of the geology of the the formations, which are mainly Cretaceous, but it goes on to describe much more recent features like young gravels. Many coal mines are mentioned by name. The pocket maps are missing from this one.
