Description
BACK AFTER TWO YEARS!! SCARCE CLASSIC REPORT!!This is USGS Bulletin 1122-E,
Geology and Fluorspar Deposits of the Levias-Keystone and Dike-Eaton Areas, Crittenden County, Kentucky
. Published in 1962, there can’t be many of these around. This publication consists of the 26-page book and comes complete with all four of the original geologic maps, some of which are detailed maps of mine workings. This is a cool publication on an important fluorite locality that produced many nice specimens. Although not as famous as the Illinois localities, the mines in this area also produced their share of nice fluorite in various colors. Here is a list of the mines discussed in this book:
Old Standard mine
LaRue Brothers area
Conyer (Jennings Lease) area
M. J. Franklin area
Henley and Eli Brown property
Gilless property
M. J. Franklin area
Fault 1 (Pope and LaRue shafts)
Price area
Keystone area
These are some of the minerals found in this area according to the text:
Barite
Calcite
Fluorite
Galena
Greenockite
Pyromorphite
Quartz
Smithsonite
Sphalerite
This book would serve as a good guide to collecting in this area, and to the history of the specimens from it. This is a scarce report on an important mining district and would be great for any mineral collector, historian, geologist, or arm chair geologist.
