    Description

    This is USGS Bulletin 982-A,
Phosphatic Rocks in the Deer Creek-Wells Canyon Area, Idaho
. This publication consists of the 51-page book and the original geologic map, plus two stratigraphic sections showing the characteristics of the formations in different areas. Published in 1952 there can’t be many of these around anymore.
The Phosphoria formation is known for phosphatic shales throughout large areas of the northern Rocky Mountains states. This area had never been developed with any mines, so this report was the first detailed look at this area. There are a number of different minerals associated with the phosphatic rocks, but most are microscopic. Surprisingly, fluorite is one of them! Makes for interesting reading and the map and cross sections help make the geology clear. A nice old item!
