    Description

SCARCE ITEM!!  GREAT COLOR MAP!!  ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 370,
Geology of the Three Forks Quadrangle, Montana
. Published in 1963, this nice report consists of the 140-page book, a large color map, a green and black map, a B&W map, plus a long table of fossil types and their occurrence in the area.
This study area details all the formations making up the mountains and valleys in the Three Forks area. Bed rock ranges in age from Precambrian to Tertiary and includes old metamorphic and igneous rocks, Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, Mesozoic intrusions, older and younger alluvial units, and even young basalts that cut through the Tertiary sediments. The map is very detailed and really colorful, and the several cross sections at the bottom really help make the geology clear.
The text details all the formations and has a section on the geologic history, and another on the economic geology which covers deposits of mica, copper, phosphate rock, iron, manganese, and other commodities.
This is a cool old report on a beautiful and interesting area, well worth having for any geologist, arm chair geologist, local resident or visitor or the like. A scarce old item!
