COOL GEOLOGY!! INTERESTING ROCKS AND STRUCTURE!!This is USGS Professional Paper 421-B,
Bedrock Geology of the Kassler Quadrangle, Colorado
. Published in 1963, there can’t be many of these around! This 55-page
book provides an extensive look at the bedrock geology of this area along the Front Range. It comes complete with the original full color map and a large folded correlation diagram of the rocks units from Pennsylvanian to Cretaceous age. This area is west of Sedalia.
This area has a band of Paleozoic to
Cretaceous age rocks tilted up along the range front and underlain by ancient metamorphic and igneous rocks
. The text describes all the formations and the, and the map and the cross section at the bottom of it make the geology very clear. There is a section in the text about the geologic structure, and another on the economic geology. The area is noted for iron, copper, uranium, mica, feldspar, plus some coal, clay and other commodities. There is also a short section on fossil localities that lists dozens of locales with fairly detailed locations.
This would be a valuable book for anyone interested in the geology, minerals, fossils, or other aspects of this interesting area.
