ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!! AMAZING FOSSIL PLANTS!!This is USGS Professional Paper 130,
The Laramie Flora of the Denver Basin, with A Review of the Laramie Problem.
Published in 1922, this is a scarce and important work, seldom seen or offered on Ebay. This 168-page hard cover book comes complete with the original, and twenty eight additional plates of photos and drawings of the amazing fossil plants from the study area. Originally issued in soft covers with terrible acidic paper, this one was saved by being rebound to nice hardcovers before incurring any damage. It is in excellent condition - as good as you could expect to find in any book almost a hundred years old.
At the time of writing, the Laramie formation was undergoing review since many areas assigned to the formation in previous mapping and studies were turning out to be of different units. A lot of progress had been made in resolving these issues, but there were still difficulties. This book sought in part to help settle the issues of the Laramie formation, or at least to update the current understanding. One of the contributions was the collection and description of many fossil plants from numerous formational units to provide additional information on the flora to help sort out the remaining problems. The result was this volume with lengthy descriptions, a cool story of developing understanding, and dozens of photos and drawings of amazing fossils. Detailed descriptions are given of some of the lesser known or new species. This is followed by 28 plates showing several great examples of the kinds of fossils they found. The fossils are amazing, highly detailed leaves of deciduous trees. They are mostly shown at actual size, which means many of them are very impressive. They would look great in a fossil collection.
This would serve as an excellent reference for the serious collector and a significant addition to any library on fossil plants, or of Colorado and New Mexico geology. It is a rare item I have never offered before, These pre-WWII reports are very hard to find, and the plates tend to get cut out of these volumes and framed - sad but true - but this one is completely intact, and the hard covers have preserved it amazingly well.
