AMAZING FOSSIL PLANTS!! LOCALITY INFORMATION!!This is USGS Professional Paper 98-S,
Contributions to the Geology and Paleontology of San Juan County, New Mexico - Flora of the
Fruitland
, and
Kirtland
Formations.
Published in 1916, this is a rare and important work, seldom seen or offered on Ebay. This 28-page book includes eight plates of photos of the amazing fossil leaves and plants from this area in NW New Mexico.
I love the fossil leaves in this report. The detail and delicacy of their preservation is really impressive. Some are complete examples of their types. If I lived anywhere near this area I would be looking to find some for myself. The fossils came from some of the formation known for coal, so I guess it's not surprising there are fossil plants in the rocks. The text contains detailed descriptions of the fossils, and with each description is provided
locality information
in more or less detail, but certainly specific enough to get you in the neighborhood where they were found.
This would serve as an excellent reference for the serious collector and a significant addition to any library on fossils, or of New Mexico geology. It is a scarce item. These pre-WWII reports are also especially hard to find.
