    Description

ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!  AMAZING FOSSIL PLANTS!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 134, which has two parts
    ,
Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary Formations of the Western Part of the San Juan Basin, Colorado and New Mexico
    ,
    and
    Flora of the Animas Formation
    .
Published in 1924, this is a scarce and important work, sel
dom seen or offered on Ebay. This 98-page book comes complete with the original full color map, three foldout correlation diagrams, and ten additional pags of photos of the amazing fossil plants from the Animas formation.
The formations studied in the first section include:
    Dakota sandstone
    Mancos shale
    Mesaverde group
    Lewis shale
    Pictured Cliffs sandstone
    Fruitland formation
    Kirkland shale
    McDermitt formation
    Ojo Alamo sandstone
    Animas formation
    Nacimiento group
    Wasatch formation
    ...and their various sub-members.
All the formations are described in more or less detail, depending on the availability of god exposures. The map and three correlation diagrams help bring it to life.
    The second section,
    Flora of the Animas Formation
, details the fossil plants of this Tertiary formation. The first part gives detailed locations where the fossils were found and I have to say, based on how good the fossils are, if I lived anywhere nearby I would be trying to collect some of my own. The locations are given to the quarter section in some cases, accompanied by lists of fossils found at each locale. Detailed descriptions are given of some of the lesser know or new species. This is followed by ten plates showing one or several great examples of the kinds of fossils they found. The fossils are amazing, highly detailed leaves of deciduous trees. They are all shown at actual size, which means many of the are very impressive. They would look great in a fossil collection.
This would serve as an excellent reference for the serious collector and a significant addition to any library on fossil plants, or of Colorado and New Mexico geology. It is a rare item I have never offered before, These pre-WWII reports are very hard to find.
