Eocene Rocks in Northeast Washington - Radiometric Ages and Correlations
. Published in 1977, there can't be many of these around. It consists of a 41-page book and the original geologic map. Actually, it has two of the same pocket map. Not sure why!
The Eocene was an interesting time in western North America. There was some sort of continental shake up that started lots of tectonic and igneous activity. From Washington to Arizona, Eocene rocks are commonly found in the same areas as large ore deposits like porphyry copper deposits and Carlin gold deposits. The same sort of rocks occur in NE Washington, but they tend to be widely scattered and not well correlated, but interestingly, some fall right around the Republic mining district.
This study sought to bring more clarity to the Eocene system by getting ages on many rocks suspected of being Eocene, correlate any they could, and put them in a better context. Lots of the locations of Eocene rocks have their own geologic maps in the text. The larger geologic map shows all the locations and gives a good idea of their distribution and types. If you are interested in the geologic development of the west, or of Washington, or the relation of Eocene igneous rocks to ore deposits this book would be a good match for you. Hard to find, as these were gobbled up by mining companies looking for leads.
