    Description

LAST ONE!! WON'T LAST THROUGH THIS YEAR!!
The is USGS Professional Paper 447, "
The Comanche Series and Associated Rocks in the Subsurface in Central and South Florida.
" Published in 1965, this scarce report details some of the formations identified in subsurface Florida from wells and drill holes in various parts of the state.
I always thought of Florida as having only pretty young geology, and that's true of the surface. Surface rocks only date back to the Cretaceous. But at depth there are older rocks that include Precambrian rocks and Lower Paleozoic strata as well as igneous rocks like rhyolite and diorite. Overlying these is the Comanche Series of
    sedimentary
rocks which are distributed beneath much of the state.
This is a pretty cool book that gives a lot of information about the subsurface geology, and comes with
    4 plates of fossils
used to help correlate the formations.
    This
    84-page book
    comes with
all seven of the original maps and charts.
This is a scarce item I have never sold before, never even seen before, in fact, and would make great reading for anyone. It is very thought provoking, and a credit to the folks that pieced it all together just from partial information of drillholes! Where else will you ever see one of these for sale? This would be of great interest to
    anyone
    with
    geologic interests in Florida.
