Description
RARE OLD BULLETIN!! ACTIVE EXPLORATION AREA THESE DAYS!!This is USGS Bulletin 922-I,
Antimony Deposits of a Part of the Yellow Pine District, Valley County, Idaho
. Published in 1940, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of a 33-page book and BOTH OF THE ORIGINAL GEOLOGIC MAPS, one of which is bound into the book as a foldout map. This publication describes unusual stibnite veins occurring in this area. The Yellow Pine district has produced several desirable minerals, several of which are described in detail in the text, including:
Andalusite
Arsenopyrite
Cinnabar
Gold
Kermesite
Myrickite
Pyrite
Quartz
Scheelite
Silver
Stibnite
(List Courtesy of Mindat.org. Minerals are not necessarily discussed in text. List included to show the mineralogical diversity of the area.)
At the time this was written the mine was actually being run for gold! In fact gold exploration continues to this day, with a large, multi-million ounce deposit currently in delineation. With gold trading at over 00 an ounce these days there is probably renewed interest in this area. This is an area that deserves more attention and this publication would serve as a great guide for the collector, mineralogist, or historian that wants to give this area a shot. Here is a great, scarce publication on an interesting area.
