CLASSIC WORK ON THESE INTERESTING FOSSILS!!This is Michigan Museum of Paleontology Papers on Paleontology #22,
Systematics of the Fissiculate Blastoidea
. I'm more of a minerals guy, but from what I understand this is a classic book on these interesting attractive fossils that are abundant in certain areas. Several families of these critters are discussed and described in great detail. Apparently there are number of measurable features of these things that help define which species they are, and this book includes all the measurements you could ask for, plus text descriptions, and many, many photos of examples in the plates at the back of the book. The text portion is 192 pages. An additional 49 plates follow, for a total of 291 pages altogether.
This would be a great book for any researcher, grad student, or advanced fossil collector looking to go deeper into these interesting relatives of crinoids and starfishes. A pretty cool book that will help identify what to my eye look like a lot of confusingly similar but cool looking fossils.
