RARE REPORT!! COMPLETE WITH ALL MAPS!!This is
Pennsylvania Geologic Survey Report #2 - Geologic Map of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Published in
1914
, this comes complete with the
original
29-page book describing the formations and structure, both original full color geology maps of the region, and all seven sheets of full color cross sections, plus the two color (black and red) map showing the locations of the section lines of the cross sections.
This is an amazing rare report on the geology of this huge area encompassing over 11,227
square
miles, or 24.9% of the state. Or seen another way, more than eight 1:62,500 quads wide and more than five tall. Pittsburgh is in the west central part of the map, which goes south and west to West Virginia, and over to part of Ohio as well. Clarion, Brookville, and DuBois are in the north of the map area. There are actually two maps covering the same area, one focus on the formations, the other focused on the structures like faults and folds.
The seven cross sections criss-cross the area and really help bring the geology to life. Some are over four feet wide!
Overall, this is great set item some cool classic maps, nice photos of some features in the area. It is rare, and I never use that word unless actually true. I can't find any record of another of these having been on the market. if you love your state and its history and geology, or love antiquarian books and maps, this is for you. Items like this are usually worn, or missing a map or two, or the book.
Chances are you won't find another complete one any time soon.
As always, please read the condition notes.
